Aftercare Tips for Brainspotting
Brainspotting sessions can be deeply transformative, but you may feel abnormal after. Some people find they feel energized or even blissful while others feel tired and emotionally raw. It’s common to continue processing once we’ve opened a ‘file’ so notice any new observations that may pop up in that time. Here are some tips to help you care for yourself:
1. Rest and Rehydrate:
- You might feel extra tired. Do your best to give your body time to recover by resting after the session.
- Drink plenty of water to support your body’s natural processing.
2. Journal or Reflect:
- Write down your thoughts, emotions, or insights from the session. Journaling can help to move things through as you process and solidify the experience.
3. Be Gentle with Yourself:
- It’s normal to experience emotional shifts, vivid dreams, or even physical sensations in the days following the session. This is your body continuing to process.
- Avoid judging yourself or the emotions that come up.
4. Engage in Soothing Activities:
- Practice grounding techniques, such as walking in nature, deep breathing, or listening to calming music.
- Focus on activities that make you feel safe and comfortable.
